Dear Elon Musk: As Puerto Rico’s Delegate to the Republican National Convention, I have a responsibility to clarify that the rhetoric claiming that the issue of admitting Puerto Rico as the 51st state of the Union is part of a Democratic agenda is an outright lie. Puerto Rico is currently governed by Jenniffer González Colón, who previously served as Chairwoman of the Republican Party of Puerto Rico. The President of the Puerto Rico Senate, Thomas Rivera Schatz, has served as Vice Chairman of the state Republican Party. The Speaker of the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, Johnny Méndez, is a Republican. The majority of the members of the Puerto Rico Legislative Assembly support admitting Puerto Rico as a state of the Union and approved Resolution 66-2026, requesting that the United States Congress admit Puerto Rico as the 51st state.
